This seven-day meditation retreat is led by Venerable Sabchu Rinpoche and represents the first of the “four extraordinary preliminary practices” (Ngöndro) of the Karma Kagyu tradition.
Ngöndro (preliminary practices) constitutes a comprehensive set of foundational practices that prepare the practitioner's mind for authentic engagement in the profound path of Vajrayana. These preliminary practices are divided into four ordinary (contemplations that turn the mind) and four extraordinary practices: Refuge and Bodhicitta, Purification, Mandala Offering, and Guru Yoga.
The main focus of this retreat will be Refuge in the Three Jewels and Three Roots, along with developing Bodhicitta — the gateway to Buddhist Vajrayana practice and the foundation of all subsequent preliminary practices.
Each day of the retreat will be divided into six meditation sessions, conducted in the traditional manner as they were in Tibet. Meditation sessions will also include Praises to the 21 Taras, Riwo Sangchö, Protector practices, and other prayers.
Meditation texts will be available on-site. If you already have a Dünstsam booklet from a previous course, please do not forget to bring it with you.

Venerable Sabchu Rinpoche is a Tibetan Buddhist teacher born in Nepal. He was recognized by the 14th Shamar Rinpoche. At an early age, he moved to Swayambhu Monastery, where he began studying the Tibetan language and the foundational practices of the Karma Kamtsang lineage.
To date, he has received many empowerments, reading transmissions, and instructions from both great masters of the Kagyu lineage and many other qualified meditation masters. He spent one year practicing Chöd in Pharping. And at the age of eighteen, he began a three-year retreat there under the guidance of Maniwa Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche. Afterward, he began traveling and teaching in Europe and North America. Subsequently, he completed a bachelor's degree in Film and Media Production in Canada.
