There is no doubt that the Heart Sutra is the most commonly used and recited text in the entire Buddhist tradition, which is still flourishing in Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Tibet, Mongolia, Bhutan, China, parts of India, Nepal and other places. It has also recently flourished significantly in Europe. What is heart sutra and what is not? It is the heart of wisdom, a statement of how things really are. It is the key teaching of the Mahayana, the condensation of all the sutras, or the explanation of emptiness in a nutshell. In order to understand the actual words of the Heart Sutra, it is helpful to first examine its background within the Buddhist tradition, as well as the concepts of "prajnaparamita" and "emptiness." All this will be the content of the lectures.
He was recognized at the age of seven as the reincarnation of 73. Ngawang Khyentse Thupten Nyingpo Rinpoche by His Holiness Kyabgon Gongma Trichen Rinpoche (41st Sakya Trizin) and became the holder of the throne of Khangsar Labrang, one of the four traditional Sakya schools.
Rinpoche received many teachings and empowerments from various teachers, including the Lamdre and Hevajra tantras. His Eminence is a master of the Buddhist philosophies and rituals of the Sakya school and is currently studying Buddhist tantric teachings, lecturing on Madhyamika, Pramana and Abhidharma. Rinpoche also oversees the spiritual and educational development of monks and nuns at the monasteries in Spiti and E-wam Shedrub Choekhorling Shedra in Manali, and has recently established a retreat centre in Jueri near Kinnaur. His Eminence is charming, articulate, easily approachable and characterized by extraordinary virtue, profound wisdom, knowledge and compassion.
